GenCon – Event Registration!!!

by christurner on Apr.26, 2011, under GenCon

The time is at hand… This Sunday event registration will open and our schedules set for GENCON 2011!!! Go to GenCon Login. Make sure that your login works and that you have your badge(if you are registering for events) by Sunday. Please keep in mind that you can only buy 2 tickets for each of your events except True Dungeon or Terrorwerks.

If you haven’t already go to Event Search to search for your events. This is Highprogrammer’s usual GenCon event site, very useful.

The first thing we should lock down is the Tournaments. Being that we haven’t played in a while we may want to think about just doing normal events. As we have learned from the past tournaments, you have to know the rules extensively. See these descriptions: DnD Tournament, Shadowrun Tournament. If we to do the tournaments then we will need to game some to gain enough proficiency to be competitive. I’m cool which ever way we go. Both of these companies host non-tournament games that look just as interesting to me. I assume even if we don’t do a tournament that we will do an event from these guys.

The next thing we should lock down is the True dungeon and/or Terrorwerks tickets. I sent out some text messages but only 2 have replied. We normally go into true dungeon with a full group. This year 10 players can go in together so we all can go in together. Since only 2 have replied(one has fully paid) I’m thinking that the interest just isn’t there this year and that we may forgo it unless we get enough interested. Terrorwerks is still a go.

If we do True Dungeon it will probably be “Lair of the Sea Lich,” from one of these True Dungeon Events Here is a video so don’t be scared, True Dungeon Trailer.

Not sure when to do Terrrorwerks but it will be one of the times listed from Terrorwerks Holy Code Here is more information about terrorwerks, Terrorwerks.

This year I want to do some workshops, so don’t call me gay just because most of them deal with crafting. Here are some I’m interested in, please let me know if you are too.

Leather Crafting, don’t laugh but this would probably be a very valuable skill to have for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Oriental Chainmail Dice Bag, what can I say, it goes with my chainmail bikini. I hope you just threw up.
Props & Accessories, cool to make some props for games and a weapon.
If not the “Props” event then we should do at least one of these Build a Foam Weapon. If Kevin goes to the “Foam Weapon” workshop then I would highly suggest Build a Foam Shield.

As for Role-Playing I’m very interested in trying one of the Savage Worlds’ events, Savage Worlds. I’m leaning towards Sticks and Stones but any other will do.

Also, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings doing one event from Posthuman Studios (Eclipse Phase).

That’s all I can think of, so please, let’s decide what we want to do.

Update!!!

This is a tenative list of events:

Treasure of Mars (Savage Worlds): Wed 10-2 Me, Tony, Christian, Mike, Matt

Miniature Painting for Beginners: Thu 3-4 Me, Tony, Christian, Mike

21 Days to a Novel: Thu 5-6 Me, Christian, Tony, Mike

Shadowrun GM Boot camp, Advanced Training: Fri 12-2 Me, Tony, Christian, Mike, Matt

Encroaching Dark (Eclipse Phase): Sat 10-2 Me, Tony, Mike, Matt

True Dungeon, Lair of the Sea-Lich: Me, Christian, Tony, Mike, Mark, Scott, Kevin, Brett(Smith brother’s nephew)

Terrorwerks: not enough interest so we aren’t doing it.

GenCon-Reservations!!!

by christurner on Apr.26, 2011, under GenCon

Yes we have reservations!!!

We actually have two sets of reservations:
The first is 3 rooms at the JW Marriot. We had to reserve these because as usual the hotel we wantedwas booked when we finally got through. We also got 3 rooms because the consensus was comfort over price. The problem with the JW is the walk to the convention center is longer due to the convention center kinda moving over to where the old Colt’s stadium was. So now the Mall is closer and Mike can go look for that special pair of panties he’s always wanted. However, if you guys remember, it was brutally hot and humid so walking more than two blocks meant toweling off.

Not content with JW Marriot, Tony persevered in getting us another set of reservations this time much closer to the action. We were only able to get two rooms. I’m on the waiting list for a third. However, after talking with everyone and since our dear friend Nate is not going, we may want to just do 2 rooms either way. This hotel is the closest hotel to the convention center and it puts us closer to our favorite restaurants.

GenCon 2011 Attendees!!!

by christurner on Apr.26, 2011, under GenCon

This year we started early on locking down who is going “for sure.”

I’m glad to say that most everyone committed early. That was very helpful in determining rooms and cost and transportation.

Nate and Sean are the only ones that could not commit. Both have some serious real life changes that prevent them from going. Also, we will not see Nate’s gal either, Christine will not be attending.

It will have a different feel this year but we will have to make the most of it.

What we have been doing is taking the total room costs and dividing it by the people who are going. Mike was unsure if Sean was going at the time, so he committed for 2 people anyway. Also, Kevin and Scott are talking about bringing their nephew, this would bring the total to 11.

If we go with 2 rooms which is what it looks like then I arbitrarily assigned rooms. I just did it to help make planning easier. We can mix the rooms up if needed. I put Matt as a floater so that he can plop down in any room that is less crowded so basically his choice since I didn’t know how the sleeping arrangements were going to be determined.

If Kevin’s and Scott’s nephew goes then Brett will go in room2 and Matt will be in room1.

Me (room1),
Tony(room1),
Christian(room1),
Mike(room1),
Matt(floater),
Kevin(room2),
Scott(room2),
Mark(room2),
Justin(room2)
